Candide

Candide or Optimism is above all a theodicy in the realm of evil. If, for Leibniz, we live in "the best of all worlds, where everything is for the best", Candide is faced with humanity's greatest misfortunes. However, Candide is much more than negativism, it is the quest for an optimism and relativism that alone can put us on the path to wisdom and happiness.
